My name is Elisabeth Schlegel, and I am an international trainer of clinician-educators and students, drawing from my backgrounds of science, business, and pedagogy. My interest in interdisciplinary studies and my curiosity about how education and healthcare are culturally colored prompted me to share my thoughts on education and related research methods and curriculum development, as well as leadership and management. Inspired by insights on innovation in education, I aim to help medical and science educators as well as students try new teaching methodologies, develop and deploy educational curricula, and improve already existing programs. I currently hold a faculty position as associate professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in Hempstead, New York. In this capacity, I develop and execute programs to support faculty in delivering basic science and clinical content across the continuum of undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education. I earned both a Master of Science and PhD (Genetics and Microbiology/ Education) from the University of Salzburg, Austria, and conducted postdoctoral studies in herpesvirology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. Inspired by New York’s multicultural communities, I immersed myself in nonprofit medical school models promoting accountability and global healthcare leadership and followed up with an MBA from The Malcolm Baldrige School of Business at Post University. I later completed a Master of Science in Health Professions Pedagogy at Hofstra University, where I am a guest lecturer at times – and am happy to give back. (I am a Lions Club member for the same reason.) I love to travel and enjoy watching the sunset, along with great food. These days, I am listening to Radio Garden, which graphs a 3-D map of the world with radio stations from each part of the world. Thanks for visiting. Contact: [email protected]
